Fly Fishing in the Florida Keys is one of the most challenging and rewarding places I have ever fished. On any given day there really is no telling what we might see out there. However, our main target species are Tarpon, Permit, and Bone Fish, and catching all three of these fish, in one day makes up the “Grand Slam” of the keys.  These fish have been know to make a person go crazy, while simultaneously making one fall in a type of love that becomes an addiction. There is something special about sight fishing. It happens the moment you first lay eyes on a fish moving across a flat unadulterated, doing what it does in nature, perfectly. Whether, it is the large forked tail of a permit swaying about as it looks for crabs trying to hide in the sea floor structure, or tarpon  calmly porpoising in a large school looking for it’s next meal, these solemn moments in nature are rarely experienced by the angler and tend to be the beginning of a feeling not easily forgotten.  The guide calls out, ” Fish at 2 o’clock.” The cast is laid out, the eat is observed, the hook is set, and the mesmerizing calm is broken by pure chaos, a bent rod, and a screaming reel. Sight fishing in Keys quickly becomes an itch you must scratch.
